Ranil is a seasoned marketing, business development, and strategic planning professional with a robust academic background. He holds advanced degrees in International Relations and Diplomatic Studies from Webster University and the University of Westminster and a BSc in Management from the University of Essex.
As the founder of So Lankan, Ranil spearheaded successful initiatives in over 20 countries. His strategic consulting has been invaluable to companies and individuals entering Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan companies expanding internationally. At Charter House International, he introduced European brands, managed suppliers in the EU and ASEAN regions, and drove growth in the construction and engineering sectors. His strategies increased Charter House’s market share to over 80% in the premium segment, introducing brands like Laufen, Renova, and Grip to Sri Lanka and strengthening existing brands such as Grohe, VingCard, and Tokheim.

Ranil co-founded Colombo City Hostel, the first hostel chain in Sri Lanka under the Hostels Lanka brand, achieving top market performance and high customer satisfaction with a review score of over eight. His expertise in international staff recruitment, market development, business diversification, and marketing was vital to the hostel’s success.

His dedication to community service is evident through his roles at Round Table International (RTI) and Emerge Lanka. At RTI, he served in various capacities, including National Secretary, International Relations Officer, National President, and Asia Pacific Regional Chairman. As an advisory board member of Emerge Lanka, he supported educational opportunities for Sri Lankan youth, especially young women.

Having travelled to over 40 countries and worked with people worldwide, Ranil is known for his adaptability, creativity, problem-solving skills, and deep understanding of international political and economic developments. His unwavering commitment to excellence and strategic vision marks his career, instilling confidence in his work.

Personal Vision and Motivation

My vision is rooted in my journey and a deep-seated desire to create impactful solutions that bridge the gap between global business needs and local talent. By leveraging my experiences and insights, I aim to foster economic growth and development in Europe and Sri Lanka.
Having lived and worked in both Sri Lanka and Europe for several years, I have gained a deep understanding of the different cultures, economies, and work environments. My family and I spent over a decade in Sri Lanka before relocating to Vienna, where we are now furthering our professional experiences in Europe. This dual perspective allows me to see the unique challenges faced in Europe and the practical solutions Sri Lankan companies can provide.
Our move to Austria was motivated by our desire to enjoy more time with our Austrian side of the family. During this transition, I identified a significant demand for IT professionals in Europe while seeing the economic difficulties in Sri Lanka, particularly the Forex shortage and the struggles of highly talented individuals to earn fair wages locally. Having lived abroad from a young age, I empathise with undergoing culture shock, longing for home and other relocation challenges. The various experiences led to the development of a business model that addresses current challenges with practical solutions that benefit Austria, Europe, and Sri Lanka.
